Subway service changes: January 17-20, 2025

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! It looks like there may be some snow this weekend, so we hope you have some fun wintry plans. If the weather does turn snowy, be sure to check the MTA homepage or app for real-time service status before you leave home. You can also learn more about how we keep our customers and employees safe and service running during winter weather.

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

  • The subway will run on a weekday schedule. Most weekend service changes will end Monday morning, but the  changes below will continue until Tuesday morning. Continue reading for more details.
  • Most buses will run on a modified weekday schedule. Some express bus routes will run on a special schedule.
  • The LIRR will run on a weekday schedule. Off-peak fares are valid all day.
  • Metro-North will run on a Saturday schedule with added peak service on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines; a weekend schedule with added peak service on the Port Jervis Line; and a weekend schedule on the Pascack Valley Line. Off-peak fares are valid all day.

And a heads up for riders in the Rockaways: Long-term service changes on the  and Rockaway Park Shuttle begin this weekend and last until May while we rebuild the Rockaway Line to protect service from future storms. Read more about these changes.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse and are running in two sections.
  •  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  •  trains aren't running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St.
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park and are running in two sections.
  •  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't running at all.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse in either direction from 5:45 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. Saturday and 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, all weekend.
    • Between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse and on the  to/from Burnside Av, every 12 minutes. Burnside Av-bound trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse or from 149 St-Grand Concourse to Burnside Av. 

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

 trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of drainage work.

  • For service between Queens and Manhattan, take  trains.
    • Transfer at 74 St-Broadway/Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av  or Queensboro Plaza .
    • Special weekend  service is running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 34 St-Herald Sq every 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • For service to/from 34 St-Hudson Yards, take the M34-SBS bus.
  • Free shuttle buses are also running along two routes:
    • Q93, making all  stops between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Q92, overnight only between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  •  42 St Shuttle trains are running all weekend, including overnight.
  •  trains are running between Flushing-Main St and Queensboro Plaza, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Flushing-bound  trains aren't stopping from 74 St-Broadway to Junction Blvd from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queensboro Plaza-bound train.

 trains, Queens

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •  trains aren't running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
    • ​ trains are running between Inwood-207 St and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd or Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
  •  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't running at all.

This is because of the Rockaway Line Resiliency and Rehabilitation project.

  • For service to/from affected stations, take free shuttle buses, which are running on three routes:
    • Q97, nonstop between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
    • Q98, between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St, stopping at Broad Channel, Beach 98 St, and Beach 105 St.
    • Q121, between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av, making all  stops between these stations.

Long-term service changes in the Rockaways on the  and Rockaway Park Shuttle begin Monday and last through May 2025. Read full details of these service changes.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  • trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction. 
    • ​ trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Hewes St.
    • On Monday,  trains aren't running.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St in either direction.
    • ​ trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.
    • On Monday,  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Forest Hills-71 Av in either direction.

This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the ​.
  • For service between Hewes St and Delancey St-Essex St, take free B106 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at Marcy Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Hewes St or Delancey St-Essex St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take  trains.
  • For service to Lower Manhattan, take  trains.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 34 St-Herald Sq and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take  trains.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, take free Q90 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at 7 Av.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains.
  •  trains are running in two sections, every 10 minutes during the day and evening:
    • Between 96 St and 34 St-Herald Square.
    • Between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Prospect Park, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
    • Overnight,  trains aren't stopping at 49 St in either direction. For service to/from this station, take the .

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Uptown  and  local trains aren't stopping from 72 St to 96 St.
  • Uptown  trains aren't stopping from 96 St to 145 St.

This is because of track maintenance and electrical work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
    • Downtown  trains are making local stops from 96 St to 72 St all weekend.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share a track in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Wakefield-241 St to Gun Hill Rd from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound train. 

 trains, the Bronx

Woodlawn-bound trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train. 

 trains, the Bronx 

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Hunts Point Av to 3 Av-138 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.
