Extra Trains Will Be Ready in Anticipation of Large Crowds

More Commuter Rail Options to Attend Subway Series with Opening of Grand Central Madison
The New York Yankees and New York Mets will square off in their first subway series of the 2023 baseball season at Citi Field Tuesday, June 13 and Wednesday, June 14 at 7:10 p.m. In anticipation of the throngs of fans expected to attend, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is the fastest, convenient, and most environmentally-friendly way to attend the game.
New York City Transit will stage extra subway trains nearby that can be dispatched to the station quickly to handle the overflow crowd. For Queens-bound service heading to Citi Field, line service will operate every 2-3 minutes between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Five extra trains will operate for Manhattan-bound service at the conclusion of each game.
The New York City Police Department and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD) will add extra officers on trains, platforms and stations along the line and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at Mets-Willets Point station before and after the game.
New Yorkers can take advantage of the MTA’s newest fare options that make travel affordable, such as fare capping with MTA’s convenient new tap-and-go fare payment system, OMNY, as well as the Long Island Rail Road’s discounted 20-trip peak ticket.
“It doesn’t matter where you are, all baseball fans look forward to the perennial subway series matchup between the Yankees and Mets,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “With a train every two to three minutes, we all know the fastest, most convenient and affordable way to get to the games is by using mass transit and we will, as we always do, deliver the best service for customers to get to Citi Field.”
“This year’s subway series is all the more special with yet another option for fans from across the region to get to this iconic baseball matchup,” said?Long Island Rail Road Interim President and Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi.?“With the opening of Grand Central Madison earlier this year, the subway series should be rebranded the railroad series because of the convenient and additional rail options now available for customers to get to and enjoy the games.”

New York City Subway and Buses
The Mets-Willets Point station is right in front of Citi Field on Roosevelt Avenue near 126 St. Fans can always take either the local or the express to reach Mets-Willets Point.
The Q48 bus stops at 126 St and Roosevelt Av, right in front of Citi Field. Customers can use the real-time bus ridership tracking feature on the MYmta app before boarding.
Customers can use the MTA’s contactless fare payment system OMNY to get to the games. Every tap to and from Citi Field is another step closer to the “Lucky 13” feature where, starting with the 13th ride of each week, every additional ride on subways or buses is free for the rest of that week.
Long Island Rail Road
The LIRR provides direct service to the Mets-Willets Point station all season long, including for the Subway Series, just an 18-minute ride via Penn Station and Grand Central Madison. Citi Field is just 18 minutes from Great Neck and 28 minutes from Port Washington. Fans traveling from Long Island on other branches can reach Citi Field by changing at Woodside, just a seven-minute ride from the stadium.
Access-A-Ride
Access-A-Ride paratransit has a designated stop at Citi Field located at 41 Seaver Way (126 St and 37 Av), south of the BullPen Gate in the Passenger Loading Zone (second cut out). Customers have ample shelter and a clear sight line of 126 St from BullPen Gate.

Metro-North Railroad
Mets fans from the Bronx, the northern suburbs or Connecticut can catch any Metro-North train to Grand Central Terminal and take the LIRR from Grand Central Madison or transfer to the 
subway to Citi Field.
