Stations Slated to Receive Upgrades Across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens
Work Begins This Saturday, April 1 at Cortelyou Rd Station in Brooklyn
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit today announced another thirteen subway stations across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens will receive cosmetic upgrades and repairs as part of the agency’s Station Re-NEW-vation program, beginning with the Cortelyou Rd station in Brooklyn this weekend, Saturday, April 1. With this next round of renovations, NYC Transit will be on track to complete 34 station renovations by the end of June. The goal is to complete a total of 50 stations by the end of 2023.
To achieve a visibly refreshed station, NYC Transit crews will make a variety of upgrades such as concrete repairs, tile replacement, water mitigation enhancements, grouting, repainting, and deep cleaning the entire station from the staircase to the track. So far, the agency has completed 21 stations as announced last week. Stations are selected based on planned weekend outages to minimize impact to customers, and following initial deep cleanings and repairs, routine and specialized cleaning will maintain this level of cleanliness.

“Bundling station renovation work with our scheduled trackwork allows us to deliver the best of both worlds – the technical upgrades for better service and a refreshed station for the customer experience,” said NYC Transit Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow. “These next thirteen stations are up for some Spring refresh.”

About the Station Re-NEW-vation Program
The Station Re-NEW-vation Program is one of the major initiatives in NYC Transit’s Faster, Cleaner and Safer plan to improve subway customer experience. The program was initiated with a soft launch over the summer of 2022 on the and lines in the Bronx, deep cleaning and renovating components of nine stations along the Grand Concourse line while the stations were closed for state of good repair work. Cleanliness is one of the top five attributes customers cite in surveys that would improve satisfaction and encourage them to travel more. In response, NYC Transit developed this program integrating renovations into planned station outages.
