The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that the transit agency is hosting a special OMNY promotion for fans attending this weekend’s first-ever Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) Series between rivals Los Tigres del Licey and Las Águilas Cibaeñas at Citi Field.
During each of this weekend’s games, 10 lucky fans will receive an OMNY prize pack including $50 in OMNY fare, an OMNY t-shirt, OMNY button, OMNY PopSocket, and NYC Transit subway map eyeglass cleaner cloth.
As the Authority continues to expand the reach of OMNY across various communities and neighborhoods across New York City, the LIDOM Series offers an opportunity for Dominican-Americans, Spanish speakers, and other fans of the games to take advantage of the MTA’s tap and go fare payment system with a contactless debit or credit card, OMNY card, or digital wallet to seamlessly get to Citi Field with ease.
“This baseball series is a celebration of the strength of our diversity and pride in the Dominican-American community of which I am a part,” said MTA Chief Accessibility Officer and Senior Advisor Quemuel Arroyo. “More than one million New Yorkers who call New York home originate from the Dominican Republic, and this baseball series is another example of how Dominicans have contributed to our local tapestry of cultures. All you have to do is tap and go on subway or bus for seamless travel with OMNY to enjoy this amazing experience at Citi Field. Skip the traffic, take public transit, and now let’s play some ball!”
“It’s an honor to be here at Citi Field with the MTA as we prepare to welcome 30,000 fans of Dominican baseball to watch these two teams square off,” said Dominican Winter League Series Tour Manager Lida Caballero. “This weekend is going to be filled with exciting baseball and live entertainment, and you won’t want to miss it.”
Customers have tapped into the transit system more than a billion times, with the billionth tap occurring on July 26. In the latest Spring 2023 Customers Count Survey, OMNY posted 79 percent fare payment satisfaction rate. Customers have tapped into all 472 subway stations and boarded 204 local bus routes and 31 express buses. Of the 195 countries that issue bank cards, OMNY has processed a card from every single one of them.
OMNY market share of full-fare subway rides continues to be at 70 percent since the MTA updated its fare-capping schedule on Aug. 20.
OMNY also supports Reduced-Fare customers who are ready to use their smart device, or contactless bank card to tap and go. Reduced-Fare customers are encouraged to seamlessly make the switch from MetroCards online with the OMNY digital assistant, which is available 24/7 at OMNY.info. The MTA provides the following service options to get to Citi Field.
Metro-North Railroad
The opening of Grand Central Madison makes it easier than ever for fans in Metro-North territory to get to the game.
Customers can take a one-seat ride into Grand Central and finish their trip either on the LIRR or the train. Either option can get a customer to the stadium in 30 minutes from Grand Central.
Long Island Rail Road
The LIRR provides direct service to the Mets-Willets Point station via the Port Washington Branch, just a 19-minute ride from Penn Station. Fans traveling from Long Island on other branches can reach Citi Field by changing at Woodside, just a five-minute ride from the stadium.
New York City Subway and Buses
The Mets-Willets Point subway station is right in front of Citi Field on Roosevelt Av near 126 St. Fans can always take either the local or the express train to reach Mets-Willets Point.
The Q48 bus stops at 126 St and Roosevelt Av, right in front of Citi Field. Customers can use the real-time bus ridership tracking feature on the MYmta app before boarding.
Access-A-Ride
Access-A-Ride paratransit has a designated stop at Citi Field located at 41 Seaver Way (126 St and 37 Av), south of the Bullpen Gate in the Passenger Loading Zone (second cut out) directly in front of the AMWAY awning. Customers have ample shelter and a clear sight line of 126 St from Bullpen Gate.
