MTA Announces Service Options For Getting To The Rockaways This Weekend

Those Seeking to Get To The Rockaways Will Have Plenty of Options Despite Closure of Line Between Jay St Metro Tech and Utica Av

The MTA today announced a series of alternative travel options for customers looking to access the Rockaways over the weekend. The announcement comes in advance of the second of three weekends of critical track work on a portion of the subway’s line.  Because of this track work, the line will not be running between the Jay Street-Metrotech and Utica Avenue stations. trains will terminate at World Trade Center on the line. Free shuttle buses will operate between those two points.

Customers seeking to get to the Rockaways on the   line and who would normally ride the   all the way should instead take the  train to the Broadway Junction stop. At Broadway Junction, they can pick up the   train en route to Far Rockaway. In Manhattan, transfers between the   and   are available at the Fulton Street station. Riders travelling between the impacted stations will also be able to utilize free local and limited-stop shuttle buses between Jay St-Metrotech and Utica Av. 

Riders going to the Rockaways can also take the  train to Brooklyn College-Flatbush Avenue and transfer to the Q35 bus to the Rockaways. The Q35 goes to Beach 116 St in Rockaway Park. 

Customers can also take LIRR from Atlantic Terminal and transfer at East New York to connect to  trains at Broadway Junction for a $4.50 City Ticket; trains run every half hour during the day. Customers can also take LIRR trains from Atlantic Terminal or Penn Station to  Far Rockaway for an off-peak fare; trains run once an hour. Riders from Penn Station should change at Jamaica for Far Rockaway-bound trains.

"We want to do everything we can to make sure New Yorkers get to the Rockaways as seamlessly as possible,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Sarah Meyer. “This is vital work to improve track quality, but we’re confident that with adequate notice customers will be able to enjoy fresh air and stroll on the boardwalk at Rockaway Beach.”
