Thousands of Prospective Candidates Attend Job Fair
Candidates Meet with Representatives from Each Agency to Fill Thousands of Jobs

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) leadership encouraged the public to apply for thousands of jobs throughout all MTA agencies at the Authority’s pop-up recruitment event in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal. The event, which was attended by thousands of prospective candidates, was the first-of-its-kind for the MTA and allowed members of the community to meet with Authority representatives face-to-face to discuss employment opportunities across a range of sectors. The event attracted 2,000 prospective applicants lined up outside Grand Central Terminal even prior to the scheduled start of the event, which will continue until 6:30 p.m. As of 2:15 p.m. several thousand attendees have come through Vanderbilt Hall.
Job openings at MTA agencies and support units include IT, Occupational Health Services, Diversity and Civil Rights, and Procurement. Representatives also showcased some of the Authority’s difficult to hire positions, including Railcar Electrical Mechanics, Elevator and Escalator Maintainers, Project Managers, and Associate Engineers.
“Since I came into this role, we’ve been working hard to bring the MTA’s recruitment and hiring efforts to a new level, one that’s more innovative than ever before,” said MTA Chief Administration Officer Lisette Camilo. “Of course, we’re looking for bus and train operators, but also scores of other roles that you might not associate with the MTA, architects, nurses, lawyers, cyber security experts, elevator maintainers, electricians and cleaners. You name it, we need it.”
“In the past, the MTA has held job fairs specific to one role or agency,” said MTA Chief People Officer Hugo Pizarro. “The advantage of today’s job fair is that candidates are meeting face-to-face with recruiters and representatives from all five of the MTA’s operating agencies instead of submitting an application online."
Minimum qualifications for these career opportunities include having a high school diploma or equivalent, be 18 years of age or older, and be legally eligible to work in the United States.
