Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chair and CEO Janno Lieber today toured NYC Transit’s new bus command center in Brooklyn on Friday, April 26. The new command center is the heart of NYC Transit’s Department of Buses operations and is equipped with technology to deliver faster, more efficient, more reliable bus service.
“Speeding up buses is a top priority for the MTA and for me personally,” Chair Lieber said. “This command center is equipped with modern technology essential to that effort. The ability to monitor exact bus locations, traffic and road conditions in real time will help us improve reliability and minimize bus bunching across the city.”
The new bus command center is staffed by over 150 employees and handles 331 routes during the week, 260 routes on Saturdays and 254 on Sundays. At the nexus of the center is a 11,000 sqft operating center. An environmentally friendly 9,000 square feet green roof covers the building.
