The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced transit crews completed functional and aesthetic upgrades at Morris Park  subway station in the Morris Park section of the Bronx. This work is part of New York City Transit (NYCT)’s Re-NEW-vation Program which utilizes planned weekend service outages to perform repairs, deep cleaning and station upgrades providing customers with brighter and better station environments when service resumes.

This past week, workers made extensive repairs to the concrete floor on both the mezzanine and platform levels. Concrete tripping hazards were smoothed over and sections over flooring that had reached the end of its useful life were repoured and repaved, totaling over 1,000 sqft. Morris Park also received a fresh coat of paint after transit workers scraped peeling paint and primed surfaces. Workers refinished platform benches, repainted safety stripes along edge of platforms, and repaired boards that protect the platform from damage caused by trains brushing against it. The station also received a deep cleaning with sticker residue stripped from windows, gum removed throughout station floors, and graffiti scrubbed off station surfaces.

“The Station Re-NEW-vation program is delivering faster, cleaner, and safer service, with tangible results customers see and experience firsthand,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “Subway customers tell us that an efficient, clean, and safe ride starts with better station environments. By taking advantage of last weekend's planned work on the  line in the Bronx, we made enhancements to the Morris Park  station that will make the customer experience better."

"From installing new tiles to making sure stations are cleaner, NYC Transit crews have been hard at work across the city with the Station Re-NEW-vation program,” said Representative Ritchie Torres (NY-15). “Bronx riders will be returning to a station that feels new and will inspire community pride. Thank you to the MTA and everyone involved for their hard work in renovating the Morris Park Ave  train station. I look forward to further expansion of the Re-NEW-vation program as the MTA seeks to provide faster, cleaner, and safer metro service."

“I am very thankful that the Morris Park Avenue  station in my district has been included in the MTA's Re-NEW-vation program," said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. "The upkeep at this train station and others across the City is as necessary as it is overdue. I hope that straphangers enjoy these improvements as we work to build a transit system that is reliable, clean, and safe."

“With the completed work at the Morris Park Ave  station Bronxites will have a faster, cleaner and safer way to get where they need to go,” said Assembly Member John Zaccaro Jr. “The New York City Transit Station Re-NEW-vation Program ensures the needs of subway customers are heard and acted upon. The Morris Park Ave  station is a testament to that commitment.”

“Morris Park Avenue  station has long-needed renovations to support a clean, safe, and comfortable commute for all,” said Council Member Marjorie Velázquez. “By updating our train stations, we are improving quality of life and delivering an elevated subway experience for all riders. The Re-NEW-vation Program puts public safety first, and I look forward to the community reaping its benefits.”

“Morris Park is a major transit stop for our residents in the East Bronx, many of whom will now benefit from the cosmetic upgrades at the station," said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. "I want to thank the MTA for their work on this initiative and for ensuring our Bronx stations and commuters are included in the expansion of this important Re-NEW-vation project."

Morris Park is the first of the next round of stations to be renovated under the Station Re-NEW-vation Program. On Thursday, Oct. 12, NYCT announced 11 new stations would receive repairs and deep cleanings.
