Metropolitan Transportation Authority trains and buses operated throughout a mid-day snowstorm on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, without any significant weather-related service changes. No significant weather-related delays were being reported as snowfall began to subside in the mid-afternoon.
With the storm expected to bring five to eight inches of snow to the region, MTA employees were out spreading salt and clearing surfaces of snow and ice, keeping signals, switches, and third rail operating, removing any downed trees that may fall across tracks and attending to weather-related challenges.
To allow buses to quickly reach terminals, lay-over locations, and other highly trafficked areas and known hotspots, New York City Transit and the MTA Bus Company used a fleet of 35 snow-fighting vehicles (including one pictured) that provide extra snow clearance on pre-determined routes.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, reduce speed to 35 m.p.h. and stay behind plows and spreaders.
