The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that 20 new MTA Police Officers graduated from the NYPD Academy in Queens today and will begin their new duties immediately.
“MTA Police Officers provide a visible law enforcement presence throughout the transportation network,” said MTA Police Department Chief John Mueller. “These new officers are joining a department crucial to protecting both riders and employees, and I am excited to welcome them to the force.”
The MTA Police Department is primarily responsible for patrolling and securing Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, MTA yards and shops, and the over 5,000-square mile footprint of the MTA’s commuter railroads from Montauk to Poughkeepsie. MTA police officers work in nine districts across 14 counties in New York and Connecticut.
