Railroads Partnering with Immersive Van Gogh, North America’s Original Experimental Celebration of the Art of Vincent van Gogh at New York’s Pier 36, for Discount Program

MTA Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi, Long Island Rail Road President Phil Eng and Immersive Van Gogh Producer Corey Ross today marked the opening of the critically acclaimed, interactive exhibit by announcing discounts for exhibit “Gogh-ers” who travel by MTA railroad.
The partnership announcement coincides with the MTA’s #TaketheTrain, #TaketheBus Campaign which features “New York is Open” images of the region’s cultural and recreational offerings that can be reached by MTA services, such as Immersive Van Gogh New York, located at Pier 36, 299 South Street.
Metro-North customers who book their tickets on the MTA’s discount web page will receive 10% of all ticket levels to the exhibit. Long Island Rail Road customers will receive a free roundtrip ticket per event ticket purchased when purchasing from the discount page.
“After experiencing the gloomy days of the pandemic, we’re proud to welcome back our customers as they make their way to the starry nights of Van Gogh,” said Metro-North President Cathy Rinaldi. “After a safe and reliable trip on Metro-North, riders can step off the train into the iconic Grand Central Terminal and then make their way to the stunning visuals of the immersive exhibit.”

Travel options to Pier 36 from railroad terminals in Manhattan:
- From Grand Central Terminal, take the subway to Bleecker Street Station and change for the to East Broadway Station, a short walk from Pier 36. The MTA recently completed work renewing the East Broadway Station.
- From Penn Station, take the subway and change at 14 St Station for the to East Broadway Station, a short walk from Pier 36.
Once at the exhibit, audiences will “step inside” the iconic works of post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, evoking his highly emotional and chaotic inner consciousness through art, light, music, movement and imagination. The gallery space offers patrons more than 500,000 cubic feet of animated projections. Renowned Creative Director David Korins has created a custom design to fit the architecture of the exhibition’s New York home, adding elements to the gallery space as well as adjacent auxiliary elements. Korins has created numerous New York-specific installations, viewing platforms and high-tech, experiential and interactive elements previously unseen in any other venue.
For MTA customers coming from elsewhere in New York City, there are additional subway and bus travel options.
- The Delancey St-Essex St station is a 15-minute walk.
- The Grand St Station is a 20-minute walk.
- M22, M15, M14 SBS and M9 buses have stops near Pier 36.

More About the #TakeTheTrain, #TakeTheBus Campaign
Today's announcement is part of the MTA’s #TakeTheTrain, #TakeTheBus campaign which launched on May 16 in conjunction with 24/7 subway service resuming for the first time since May 6, 2020, to encourage New Yorkers to return to a more reliable, cleaner system than the one many last used before the pandemic arrived in New York.
The launch of the campaign coincides with recent ridership increases in the system, with more than 2.2 million daily weekday riders on subways over the past few weeks and weekday bus ridership reaching 1.3 million. Recent combined Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road ridership of over 200,000 is dwarfing the combined average of 23,000 of a year ago, with weekend ridership now approaching 50% of pre-pandemic weekend levels.
